About the Project
It Takes A Village is a portable artwork made from a participatory public art project by Artist in Residence Shelley Heffler. The artist addressed pandemic-imposed isolation by inviting community members to make individual linen quilt squares at home or in Rogers Park. The finished squares were professionally lined so participants could keep with square or donate it for display. The twenty participants contributing 28 panels to a framed, multi-authored artwork displayed in City Hall are:
Susan Amorde • Doris ‘Dot’ Conley • Maxine Cotson • Lisa Francois • Dellis Frank• Lula Grayson • Melissa Grayson • Linda Greene • Regina Gutierrez • Sidney Hurd • Marcia Izumoto • Helen Lessick • Kali-Rose Modkins • Juanita Lee Price • Bette Shapiro • Karen Sochar • Jackie Steverson • Sidney Tuggerson Jr. • Akilah West • Pearl West
