Culture Fusion

Artists

Richard Wyatt and Ricardo Duffy

About the Project

Culture Fusion is a unique artistic collaboration by artists Richard Wyatt and Ricardo Duffy. Fusing their individual techniques and cultures resulted in a representation of the unique Inglewood community.

Using photographs of each artist’s relatives, hand fired porcelain tile portraits of an older man and two young women were created. These are framed by stylized clouds and symbols from indigenous cultures, a background reflecting the community’s heritage. The artwork reflects the City, and artists’, fused heritage in a mixed media wall.

Culture Fusion was commissioned by the non-profit Inglewood Cultural Arts, with funding and site provided by the City.

About the Artists

Richard Wyatt is a painter and public artist weaving culture and history onto walls across California. His celebrated works are seen at Watts Towers in south Los Angeles, Capitol Records in Hollywood, White Memorial Hospital in east LA and the East Portal in Union Station in LA’s downtown transit hub.

Ricardo Duffy is a master ceramicist working in studio and public art arenas. His public art commissions include the Los Angeles Metro Blue Line Florence Station and a project for the Ontario, CA International Airport. His exhibitions have been seen in museums and galleries across the United States and internationally.
