Inglewood Book Igloo
Designer / Architect
(fer) Studio
About the Project
Inglewood Book Igloo is a site-related architectural project by (fer) studio. The designers used decommissioned books to comment on the transition that libraries throughout the country are experiencing. Older reading materials are transitioning from printed matter into e-books and electronic media. This artwork repurposes some of the 10,000 books decommissioned by Inglewood Public Library to create an ongoing ‘work in progress’.
The project’s architects describe Book Igloo as a way to ‘respect to the books that have enlightened the lives of many and as an act of placemaking to strengthen the connection between people and the places they share.’
