Inglewood UrbanStage
Artist
Cheryl Wing-zi Wong
About the Project
Inglewood UrbanStage was a performed public artwork with a month-long architectural sculpture, construction performance and panel series. Sited on a civic plaza, UrbanStage re-activated the open area to support public conversation and community discussions.
UrbanStage’s wooden modules were reconstituted each week over four weeks. With forms of Amphitheatre, Transverse, Labyrinth and Longtable, Wong explored how the architecture of shared space impacts urban conversations. Each transformative stage was activated by curated civic conversations and workshops on urban issues in Inglewood: transportation and the impact of automobiles; art cities and gentrification; urban development; and shared futures based on food, culture, and diversity.
