About the Project
Inglewood’s Public Art Collection includes some smaller, portable artworks. The Senior Center Collection is comprised of diverse works by contemporary artists living or working in Inglewood. It includes five abstract artworks and three works celebrate trees. The public art built into the facility celebrates the area history and seniors’ memories and memorabilia.
These artworks, selected during the 2017 Inglewood Open Studios event, were purchased directly from artists. Funding for the purchases came from the Public Art Fund, which is comprised of percent for the arts fees from developers building in the City.
About the Artists
Inglewood painters are represented by Jeanne Dunn, Shelley Heffler, Lindsey Nobel, David Spanbock and Sidney Tuggerson Jr. Sculptors Helen Lessick and Stan Smith round out the collection with art on two pedestals in the entry lobby.
Urban Quake, Shelley Heffler abstract work, combines painting and sculpture in a shaped canvas. This dimensional work resembles a map and computer motherboard and is displayed near the Computer Room.
Stan’s Twist, the wooden sculpture by Stan Smith, explores the intersection of geometric shapes on a softened hourglass form. With fine design and stunning craftsmanship, the artist incorporates diverse woods into an organic torso displayed in the Lobby.
